Hernia op - Fraser - 17-09-13 Well it makes a change from bike topics LOL, so I've got to have a hernia op, doctor offers choice of general anesthetic or local anesthetic, ????? I know what it means but does anyone have any comments / views / experience. Any advise would be very very welcome. Fraser PS, don't get me started about shaving my pubs Re: Hernia op - paulkemp - 17-09-13 Local.... you won't feel it and u go home in 1 hour. General u feel like shit and end up in recovery for hours. Re: Hernia op - taylor - 17-09-13 go local m8. Re: Hernia op - chris.biker - 17-09-13 I have never had an operation so never been given a general anesthetic, I have had stitches with a local and also teeth taken out, so I d go local, stick with what I know. Re: Hernia op - goldfazer - 17-09-13 I'm very squeamish so would have to be knocked out. Re: Hernia op - Doddsie - 17-09-13 [quote PS, don't get me started about shaving my pubs Shaving your pubs??? There`s a joke there somewhere about hair of the dog!!! ![]() Re: Hernia op - paul1606 - 17-09-13 i went general (too much of a tart & didnt want to see what was going on) had it at 10:00 & was told as soon as i came around & had a slash i could go home. Happy days so i thought until i went to get out of bed & nearly fell over, later to find out they give you a jab in the op area whist your under to numb it so you can go home...... Dosey sods jabbed me slightly in the wrong place & numbed me leg.Didnt get home till later on that night Re: Hernia op - paul1606 - 17-09-13 And yes this Dozy sod cant spell lol Re: Hernia op - chaz - 17-09-13 Had 2 stents in my heart under local but it didn't go well, however they just pumped more morphine into me, I didn't give a sod, I was off me tits, lol? Re: Hernia op - driller2 - 18-09-13 Had all mine done with a 'general' Fraser. Home a few hours later and back to normal after a week. I've had a few 'generals' in the last 5 years - everything from bike crash bone repairs to major bypass stuff - and it's always a challenge to see how far down from ten I can count before I'm gone. Never got lower than eight . Some great drugs about these days Fraser. Good luck Re: Hernia op - richfzs - 18-09-13 (17-09-13, 07:13 PM)paulkemp link Wrote: Local.... you won't feel it and u go home in 1 hour. Dunno when you had your general, Paul, but they've improved massively in recent years - of course it does depend, to am extent on the patient, the aide effects are much reduced however... Re: Hernia op - paulkemp - 18-09-13 I also like to watch the op :p Re: Hernia op - richfzs - 18-09-13 Fair enough :-) Depending on the op, I might be the same! Re: Hernia op - locksmith - 18-09-13 Never got given a choice with mine, general and I felt shit after and took hours before I could go. I was told it was keyhole but a while later when I removed the dressing there was a 4 inch scar! Re: Hernia op - paulkemp - 18-09-13 Big key ![]() Re: Hernia op - DILLIGAFF - 18-09-13 Did something go pop when you last lifted yer wallet???? :lol I had a pacemaker put in under local. Its like going to the dentist, your apprehension is MUCH worse than the actual event. Re: Hernia op - Fraser - 20-09-13 Thanks for all your views and advice, on reflection I've decided to go with a general, I have a very active "fight or flight" instinct , had a few too many moments at the dentist !! so I think it will be best for everyone if I'm not awake. Thanks for all the good wishes. I will bore the forum to death when I'm stuck at home for a few days, Fraser |
