MOT question
#1
Playing with a beat up Zx6r and gunna try a mot on it.
Done pretty much all the mot work now apart from its front mudguard is smashed.
Now with the 1998 Zx6r the front fairing hangs a long way over the wheel.
Is a front mudguard a must for mot (got one on way but will be a week or so) or can I get away with out it.

Plenty of custom chops and harleys out there with no front muddie, unless they take them off after the mot.

And what about dirt bikes? The muddie on them is mounted right up under the front light, about 2 foot away from the actual wheel

looking in the MOT manual there is not a lot mentioned about mudguards except for this
Some              fork arrangements rely on the bracing incorporated in the              mudguard fixings to maintain their alignment. A mudguard insecurely              fixed to the forks may therefore adversely affect the handling of              the machine
Check the security of the front mudguard and look for evidence              of it having been in contact with either the wheel, the tyre or              any fixed part of the machine.
and in the failure section
An insecure mudguard or one able to easily contact the wheel,              tyre or any fixed point of the machine.

I've got a feeling that they are like lights on a bike and spare wheels in a car. If they are fitted then they have to work properly. If they aint fitted they aint tested (although you get an advisory for lights on a bike not to ride it in anything but perfect visibility - a so called daylight mot).

Might be worth asking the testing station if he would pass or fail it before putting it in.
If you worried about falling off your bike, you'd never get on.

I'm working all week so dropped it off tonight. Will see if it passes Tuesday or not.
Np if it fails, free retest and new mudguard should be here by the weekend.

Mind you it has no Reg plate either Tongue but that should be here Tuesday Smile
