Just over £2 from a dealer with the tab washer included!

What's wrong with the front sprockets then, and does it affect all years? Mines a 2003 fox eye
Some songs are very very long, but this one isn't !

They either seize/weld themselves on, come loose or just disappear completely.
You need to upgrade the 9mm wide nut to a 12mm wide nut and washer kit, part number

Personally i would get it changed next time you renew your chain and sprockets just for peace of mind, or asap if you're the worrying type.

Its £2-44 exactly from my local Yamaha dealer-pick up. Very small price for peace of mind!
Just checked mine after reading this thread and it's not good news, the 9mm nut was loose and only being held on by the tab washer.
I tried to tighten it up again but it won't (i.e. it will thread along the shaft fine but it won't fully tighten up at the end)
Looks like the thread on the nut is worn and thankfully not the thread on the output shaft.
Asides from ordering the new bigger nut is there anything else I can do with this in the short term as a temporary fix?
Apart from not riding it, not really

It's too dangerous to start attempting any kind of short term fix, and the fact that you now know about it is more than enough to suggest getting it sorted properly.
If anything went badly wrong while you were riding it you wouldn't forgive yourself.
