My gen 1 fazer 1000 has started oozing brown gunk from small hole in left hand engine casing. Have owned various fazer 1ooos over last 10 years and this has never happened before. Any ideas?.....will try to attach photo

Would it be possible that water from washing or rain has got into the area where the spark plug goes that the sparkplug cap normally seals and it just a some dirty rusty oily water coming out of the drain hole..

Bike has been sitting in shed since last july. has not got wet. Oil has just been changed and is a nice red colour still. After what has been said above I am also perplexed as to why it only seems to drain out when on side stand and not when in motion. I am now worried as am due to tour Spain at end of june and am now questioning whether it will do about 5000 miles. Should I fix before I go or will it last the holiday?

Seriously, I think the above is bang on the money. Lift the tank, pull the plug leads and have a good look with a torch or as snapper says it might be a loose plug because that is not clean oil coming out of that hole.
Unless you are seriously unlucky I think you will find it is a quick fix.
You should at least investigate it before going on a 5000 mile trip!
If it is just a bit of seepage past the cam cover gasket you'll probably have no problem beyond a slightly messy looking engine and the need to top up the oil occasionally, but it's not impossible that the cause is something critical. There's no point in having a ruined holiday for want of getting your spanners out or taking it to a mechanic if you're not confident of tackling the job yourself.
Or it could be rusty water from the metal coolant pipe that goes into the top of the head I have noticed mine has surface corrosion.. I would check the the hose connection onto it
Thanks foe all thwe above............turns out it was just shitty water sitting in top of engine because drain hole was blocked. As bike was on main stand and not being used this water just got shitty as it wasn't being boiled off with use. When put on side stand for first time after sitting it slowly oozed out. Took it to garage who blew all the crap out with an airline. Checked the plug recesses and no oil leaks...........Big Phew..... No leaks and no cost......Spain here I come.......one again thanks for all suggestions.
