About a month ago I heard it again on Steve Wright but missed the bit where he says what it was :hammer and since then it's been rattling round my head.
It's probably a seventies soul funk band and it wasn't a big hit or by a big band and it's the sort of tune that they would use as a background to talking over on the radio so probably not going to find it unless I email Steve Wright !!

You could ask for a soppy tune for the missus while your at it.

And I agree that the track Steve Wrong used was probably "Pick up the Pieces" by AWB or something

Definately not AWB.  Think Commodores/Earth Wind Fire/James Brown/Funkadelic. Really heavy on bongos and trumpets.

Been trawling the R2 website and found they list all the old shows with music played. After an hour or so it aint there  :'(

Guess I'll have to wait another 20 years before I hear it again.  :b

Is it definitely just an instrumental?

I can think of some possibilities, but they've all got lyrics/singers in them too.
