I've noticed on a few parts/accessory sites that they differentiate between 01-03 and 04-05 FZS1000's. Why?
What changed in 2004/5 Fazer Thou's?

might have been 03-04 the electrics changed VERY slightly with the loss of the headlight switch. or was that 02-03?
to be honest there were very few changes on any of the years and 90% of those were minor/cosmetic/colour

good one - my 04 didn't have the light switch.

Anyone know if they changed the clutch lever? I've bought 2 off ebay for my 54 plate, both wrong. Pivot hole too small and the 'meat' around the pivot around 5mm too thin (as in the thickness of the metal around the pivot, measured flat to flat). Surprised me

Sounds like your clutch perch has been changed at some point. The clutch lever is the same for all years up to 2012 and R1 99-08:
http://www.yamahamotorcyclespares.co.uk/...&ShowAll=1 98 R1 perch and lever are different so *could* be one of them is on there.
The fork seal is thinner on the 04-05 (1C2 is it's model code). It is 9.5/10.5mm as opposed to 11/14.5mm of that fitted to the 5LV :eek
Also the full wiring loom & ignition switch is different (due to the lack of a headlight switch).

I've had the bike since new and the clutch perch definitely hasn't been changed.
wiring harness changed at 03.

I had an 01 bike, and now an 04 ..almost nothing diffrent apart from tank logos and no on off switch for the lights. I cant tell anything more minor than that.
If you buy clutch levers off e bay its possible the seller has given you the wrong one.??

Just found this...
In 2001 FZS1000 Fazer launched: R1 engine and brakes, basic but capable chassis. The first Fazer 1000 was a massive hit. 143bhp at the crank – typical bikes dyno 122bhp at the rear wheel.
In 2003 it becomes available with a black engine (designation FZS1000S) and gets an updated instrument panel.
In 2004 the model code changes from 5LV to 1C2 but there are no significant technical changes.
In 2005 black frame, ECU and catalytic converter changes to cope with the latest emission regs.

There was a restrictor in the exhaust collector in my 05 , which i believe was not fitted to the earlier models. I've removed it
just held in with spot welds. |
