Exhaust Clamp down pipes help

Hi all got a slight problem today I cud hear a strange sound from the bike I pulled over and had a good look around and found this  Sad :eek


can any one advise what options I have got please. thanks

Chop the pipe in 2 and replace the clamp... which will be a pain in the a*se... new down pipes I think sir!! I may have a set of steel ones coming up forsale in really good raft if I part with my money for a stainless... otherwise check out eBay as there is a set from Motard for £150ish. There is a thread on here ref downpipes with an eBay link to the pipes.  :lol

Just been on the phone and looks like It one road to go down

remove the downpipes and bring it ini will then cut the end off the pipe and fit a new flange and reweld the endthis would be £50

while you got the system off replace the studs & nuts with stainless ones
follow me and ile show you were to crash

Those studs look like they are well rusted so expect a breakage, don't do it when you desperately need the bike.
Save the planet...It's the only one with beer!

:lol thanks for the info I have seen some of the storeys about these bolts and what fun you can have getting them out

I am going to  replace the studs & nuts with stainless ones I am going to get a mate two give us a hand he knows a thing or two about bike  Smile

If it's a carb engined fazer probably not, the R6 is a totally different engine.

I have seen this happen recently, It sems common with aftermarket stainless pipes. What make are they?

Hi there as far as I can tell I know they are the standar  ones these do not look like aftermarket stainless pipes?

The original downpipes were black and will have corroded through well within your bike's age. They do look very similar to mine which are Delkavich and broke in the same place.

I like the idea of getting it welded, as a cheap option. Make sure any excess weld gets  angle grinded down and it's all flush with the rest of it. In fact what would be a good idea, is that there is a V shaped groove made for the weld to sit in. A bit like channeling out a crack in the wall before filling!

Top tip I was given here when I last changed my pipes, was to keep squirting WD40 or equivalent into the bolts and all the other rusty parts that need undoing. And if you do ride the bike, the WD40 when hot makes a good air freshener (joke) No seriously, Do this everyday for about a week, be generous and it will make life a lot easier when it comes to undoing it all. You don't want one of those exhaust studs snapping off in the head leaving you with having to re-tap the hole, or worse re-place the head.

thanks guys for the info its now started to blow and rattling  :o I will start doing the wd40 on them two bolts that have to come out and fingers crossed it all go's well  :\

Dont try just wd40 youll waste alot of money if the studs snapped (happened to me, luckily i have good friends)

Get the rad off, get a propane blow torch and get some heat on them

thanks for the info taking the bike tomorrow to be fixed its been fun this week riding the bike  :lol you can hear me for miles had one or two funny looks at the traffic light  off  :bobby :rollin :2fingers it will be sorted tomorrow

Of course it could still snap the thread clean off with the nut despite the propane. Regular coppaslipping of the studs and nuts to avoid a similar situation if i ever want to take the exhaust off again i think...
