I saw it run under a piece of board so crept up with a mallet flipped the board over and whack a mouse. The thing is I never thought had chance at all and there was no danger of actually hitting it.
I then brought those linked to in Toolstation and they do work very well but as has been said the mouse gets soaked in pis and sh1t and all of that then gets stuck in the mechanism which is then a disgusting mess to clean before you can re use it.
. . . . That reminds me of a Monty Python sketch I once saw.
Treat everything in life the way a dog would- if you can't eat it or foc it, forget it.

Just checked the traps....no bodys.....been a night and a day now without any killings , figures add up for an average size litter , just the one young un to upset the mix , will leave the traps in the car untill the weekend and then see if I can find the nest.....not really looking forward to that :\
Thats a good point , thanks....had a thought myself today , ive caught all 9 mice in the front passenger footwell , directly below the glove box ........anyone want to open it for me :eek
A few years ago, got fed up with (what I thought was) a couple of grey tree rats emptying the bird table on a daily basis. Tried scaring em off/traps etc, still kept coming back. So, i decided to buy an air rifle, .22. Over the next few months, I shot and killed over 60 of the bastards. Yes, 60. I reckon I must have reduced them to an almost unsustainable level, as only rarley now do we ever see one knocking around. If Id skinned em, Id have had enough for a couple of Davy Crockett suits and hats. On the plus side, the garden is now full daily with all sorts of birds that we've not seen around for donkeys years

I've been doing the same ( shooting the squirrels) only mine are a reddish colour not grey. Think it might be the red clay rubbing off on their fur when they're down their burrows.
Think they're all young un's too as they seem smaller than usual.
Anyway, so far I've bagged over a hundred and haven't seen any about for a good few months now.

Seems like a good method of getting rid of vermin..... I might try the same thing outside my local dole office ?

I just used a bucket of warm soapy water and a toothbrush. Pish and shit cleaned up nae bother, but the peanut butter took a bit of scrubbing.
Just make sure you clean your toothbrush thoroughly afterwards before brushing yer teeth.

Another body today ,10 in total now , kill rate is slowing so might be winning the battle , was away from home last night and it looked as if the last victim had been in the trap for a while , luckily mrs red is out this evening so was able to give the traps a good clean with a pink toothbrush and rebait the traps...
One more this morning , slightly bigger than average this one , no match for the trap though , traps are endorsed by rentokill think I paid £ 2.97 each , cheap and effective , upto 11 now , see what today brings....
You need to keep setting and checking your traps for at least another 2 to 4 weeks after you find your last body to be sure you get them all. Try to find any holes they may be getting in through and block, remove any food stuffs or put in metal or glass containers. When I did my pest control training the first thing we were told by the instructor is mice and rats think of only 3 things breeding/sex, food, nesting. I am at the moment getting rid of an infestation of mice in my own garage my own fault left some fishing bait out in bags not mice proof containers.
Don't tell me mice love boilIes, flavour preference? The renown Hampshire mice prefer sinking pellet.
Actually now you have said that I will go check my fishing cupboard in the shed for the little vermin.
Someone once said that at any time you are never more than a few feet away from a rat, they must have known my boss when I was working.
I am sat in my bed typing this so I am hoping that statement is not true. :eek
We've also had mice in garage/shed this winter. Another good bait is grapes, lots of success, sometimes with a smear of peanut butter butter closely to attract them.

In our old house, we got an infestation of mice and after catching about 30 in traps over 3 nights, I bought a 3 pack of the plug-in Sonic Rodent Repeller units that are supposed to drive them away.
After the first night of having them plugged in, no mice in the traps, same again after 2nd night. During the 3rd day, our neighbour told us of her sudden infestation - I got some of the Sonic Repellers for her and within 24hrs, her infestation had gone.
In the last 10 years, I've used these repellers in my garage and house and have not seen another mouse.
Same story with my mother in law's house - she had families of mice in her basement/cellar at the end of last year - "Pest Control" specialists spent 3 months taking her money, taking out dozens of mice in traps and putting down poison. But every morning, at least one trap had been triggered.
24hrs after putting 3 Sonic Repeller units in the basement/cellar on New Years Eve and a couple in the kitchen & living room (just in case they moved upstairs) - all of the traps were empty the next day and have been empty every day since.
I've been converted - I'd definitely give them a try (it's worth £15-£20 to find out IMO (B & Q have a few different types/brands).

Last year we had a buzzard fly into our patio door, and it fell to the ground unconscious. After googling what to do, and ringing the local bird sanctuary, they told me to put it in a cardboard box and bring it to them to recuperate. So I get my toughest bike gloves on, helmet, jacket ..... ALL THE GEAR, ALL THE TIME. As I bent down one eye opened, it looked at me, shrieked and focced off! [/quote]
I am sad, and do Geocaching, I've even been known to nip off on a LOFO day out to grab one (I go round with a GPS hunting tuppaware). There was one cache where people were saying it was hard to get to due to too many stinging nettles. I stopped off on the way home on the bike wearing full leathers and retrieved the cache with ease... ALL THE GEAR.......ALL THE TIME!
