Putting bike away for winter

Cardboard and duvet around the engine why?  It doesn't need to be kept warm it's made of metal and those are just going to trap and hold water/moisture/damp etc.

I live in the wilds where temps can drop below -10 and 15ft snow drifts ,so i just like to ensure the cooling system is ok. Like I said bike is kept outside and the windchill can be quite severe. Not had any problems so far
