All good advice. The bike is running fine and everything works. Discussed with a pal who is an electronic/avionics engineer (and Yamaha Nut) and he has suggested that main connector to the left of the flasher. The suggestion is low voltage or bad earth which is driving the system to do a 're-check' hence the lights re-illuminating.
Going to start at that connector (and thinking about it has similar issues with the earth here on a 2002 VFR800 and also 2004 5VY R1. So, will let you know what I find and work from there.
The bike has deffo been run in winter!
