Lights on Start Up? Unusual - BSR67 - 02-05-25 Dear All Had my Fazer a few weeks and have now done 935 miles on it. When I turn the ignition on, the neutral, fuel, oil and fuel light come on then go off except neutral. When I start the engine, the oil, temperature and fuel lights momentarily illuminate and then go off again (as if you've just turned the ignition on). I'm sure it wasn't doing it before! Just watched a couple of You Tube videos of start ups and they don't do it, so I'm not imagining it. Nornal? A problem? An inidcation of a problem? The only thing that has changed, and may be ENTIRELY coincidental, is that I took it for MOT this morning and there were two extended periods of checking the steering lock to lock to check headrace condition. Makes me wonder whether a dirty/lose connection/wire has been upset. Just a pain in the @rse having to strip and inspect. Thanks BSR67 RE: Lights on Start Up? Discussed with a pal who is an electronic/avionics engineer (and Yamaha Nut) and he has suggested that main connector to the left of the flasher. The suggestion is low voltage or bad earth which is driving the system to do a 're-check' hence the lights re-illuminating. Going to start at that connector (and thinking about it has similar issues with the earth here on a 2002 VFR800 and also 2004 5VY R1. So, will let you know what I find and work from there. The bike has deffo been run in winter! Thx BSR67 RE: Lights on Start Up? No chnange except - when left for a few hours it doesn't display the issue on start up. If you stop and re-start almost immediately, it does. Will wait and see what gives. BSR67 RE: Lights on Start Up? Unusual - BBROWN1664 - 04-05-25 For the FZS600 this is a normal diagnostic test. Its also a clue if when you press the starter, these lights come on and stay on until you release the button but the engine doesn't turn over that you have turned the kill switch off. I suspect the FZS1000 is the same RE: Lights on Start Up? Unusual - BSR67 - 05-05-25 (04-05-25, 07:41 PM)BBROWN1664 Wrote: For the FZS600 this is a normal diagnostic test. I suspect the FZS1000 is the same Thanks for this. Being the sad act that I am (!!), I've watched a FZS600 start up video. On ignition on, the neutral light comes on only, then on physical start (with the starter button) the oil, fuel and temp lights flash on an off briefly (rather as mine is!!) leaving the neutral light on. The only difference is, my oil, fuel and temp lights illuminate on igntion on in addition to neutral, and then flash on again immediately after starting on the button. Not that I'm obsessing or anything! So, I'll run for a few days and see what happens. You're right though - it's cycling a diagnostic run. The main this is, everything goes off. Thanks BSR67 |
