testing fuel light

To drain the tank I guess I have to pull the pipe off the back of the fuel pump or filter. (?)

Then engine off, ignition on - just let it drain until the light comes on (or not).

Anyone know if the light is on a delay or latches? Else I guess it would flicker when the tank is on the limit.

Where does the tank drain from? Can I replicate the tank being empty by leaning the bike to either side once it's low?

I don't really like playing with petrol.
