With a bit of jiggery pokery you can remove it out of the right bulb hole if i remember correctly.
And yes they are sealed.

If your struggling to get it out and don't want to remove the light unit from the bike, use a long soft implement such as a pipe cleaner or a few twisted together to make one long one and a small hook at the end to catch the shield.
