Paul, that pic of the ballast and wires that you posted seems odd :-(
Deffinetly too many wires.
You shouldn't have a relay for a start, you only need a relay if your connecting a H4 HID as that requires it for the dual element, I think they've sent the wrong wiring loom for your needs.
I'll take some pics tomorrow and post them for you to see.
You should have the ballast, the two sets of wires coming out of it, one goes to the HID bulb, the other to the original H1 connection from the bike.
I wouldn't imagine you'd have enough wire to run all the way back to the battery section, I installed my ballast in the left hand side, under the plastic and used a bracket to secure it to the bolt that goes through the left hand fairing. When I do my H4, I'll just put it under the right hand side fairing in the same way,but will need to run a lead to the battery.
So if, your going to upgrade the H4, you've already got the wires for that. :-)
