project small sun complete ( i think) - Paulfzs - 11-08-15 so, got main beam sorted with 2x 20w led spotlights... dip beam still lacked even with an osram night breaker and the little cup removed.. so i purchased a h1 hid bulb from ebay.. then a ballast.. only to find the ballast didn't come with the wiring harness. ordered harness it arrived today so i set about fitting it ... luckily the wiring harness has really odd length wires to make it super difficult... the battery to relay wire was super short meaning the relay needed to be kind of close to the battery.. and the plug from the relay that plugs into the fazers h1 plug was also short meaning somehow i had to stretch it from near the battery to the front of the bike.. then the power from the relay to the ballast was about 20-30 feet long meaning i had to coil it up loads. ![]() settled on a place for the ballast and relay works pretty well here.. strong double sided tape holding it against the cross member and some ghetto double sided tape on top just because why not. (yes i did take the black wiring box out during the engine change and forgot to put it back in) ![]() just my dip beam on ![]() And for when i wish to go into overkill mode... ![]() Re: project small sun complete ( i think) - Fazerider - 11-08-15 Just as well the MOT was yesterday, eh? :rolleyes Re: project small sun complete ( i think) - Paulfzs - 12-08-15 (11-08-15, 09:32 PM)Fazerider link Wrote: Just as well the MOT was yesterday, eh? :rolleyes spotlights passed the mot and it passed with no bowl over the dip beam. besides, i like to see where im going. Re: project small sun complete ( i think) - Paulfzs - 14-08-15 Soo tested and 35w isnt that bright, ordered a new slim 55w ballast so will see how it goes. Re: project small sun complete ( i think) - sinto607276 - 14-08-15 Paul, that pic of the ballast and wires that you posted seems odd :-( Deffinetly too many wires. You shouldn't have a relay for a start, you only need a relay if your connecting a H4 HID as that requires it for the dual element, I think they've sent the wrong wiring loom for your needs. I'll take some pics tomorrow and post them for you to see. You should have the ballast, the two sets of wires coming out of it, one goes to the HID bulb, the other to the original H1 connection from the bike. I wouldn't imagine you'd have enough wire to run all the way back to the battery section, I installed my ballast in the left hand side, under the plastic and used a bracket to secure it to the bolt that goes through the left hand fairing. When I do my H4, I'll just put it under the right hand side fairing in the same way,but will need to run a lead to the battery. So if, your going to upgrade the H4, you've already got the wires for that. :-) Re: project small sun complete ( i think) - Paulfzs - 15-08-15 ive got a slim 55w ballast now but yeah the harness seems to have a lot of wires but google Quote:An Automotive Relay is used to pull signal from a source (Headlight connector) that triggers power to be drawn from the battery. this harness goes from the battery to the ballast and to the h1 headlight connector, its drawing straight from the battery which is apparently why it needs the relay? Quote:Here is the answer, a time delay relay. This relay fits most common single beam HID wiring harnesses for an easy fix to prevent HID from starting before/during cranking the engine. Avoid those pesky ignition errors, flickering/fluttering HID, and the needless wear and tear on bulbs. Re: project small sun complete ( i think) - fazersharp - 15-08-15 Whats that in the middle of your fairing just above the box lights, it even has a cut out for it, some kind of weird aftermarket thing ? Only ever wired them up as I said previously. Plus, your lights are switched on after the bike is running so I don't think it affects it the way they're saying. Only time that a relay was mentioned to me was when I investigated into the H4 which has a dual element and every seller/user of these bulbs all said I'd need a relay for that bulb. Think you've been told differently, but that's not a bad thing as you now have the proper one for when you go to do your H4, but if your not, give me a shout and I may buy it off you, although I'm not keen on the thicker ballast. ![]() Colin Re: project small sun complete ( i think) - Paulfzs - 15-08-15 (15-08-15, 02:37 PM)sinto link Wrote:
I've never used a relay in any of my HID's that I've fitted to bikes and cars and never had any issues with them. Re: project small sun complete ( i think) - sinto607276 - 19-08-15 Best time to find out how good they are is in the dark :rollin Can't figure out what you mean by 'flickering'? How many bulbs you done in HID? Have you got sound connections? Where you located the ballast might not be helping as there's lots of electrical wires about there. Try moving it to somewhere else. Re: project small sun complete ( i think) - Paulfzs - 19-08-15 its like this: https://youtu.be/AK-Xhu0qjZU?t=25s my 35w didnt do it with either 35w or 55w ballast, its fine untill it warms up. ballast is on the fairing left hand side, all plugs in correctly. Only got the left h1 bulb connected. Re: project small sun complete ( i think) - sinto607276 - 19-08-15 The kit he installed on the video is the ones I use, I've not had any problem with them flickering, so maybe if yours aren't the same that's the reason? Re: project small sun complete ( i think) - Paulfzs - 19-08-15 Yeah mine doesnt have a capacitor, its not been a problem up untill now... ill go into maplins tomorrow and buy one for £1 to solder on or just spend £5 and buy one off the auction site. |
