Bodging isn't the best but it'll see you through till you get it sorted.
Have you contacted the place where you bought it from?
The plug you refer to, is waterproof and also  dustproof, best to get the right plug harness as some are different,  they aren't universal although they do look the same. Others will have the positive and negative feeds coming out the ballast differently, hence the reason to get the right one.
