I've made racks for a couple of guys on here, and I can say that the mounting points are all the same for the Fzs600 regardless of years.
I used box section rather than tubing, and toyed with the idea of using support struts going from the rear of the rack down at 45 degrees to the swivel bungee rings below the tail light. You could pretty much load it up with anything then without fear of breakage. (had a Renntec fail on me too!) The one I made for my Thundercat uses this, and I load it up with a Hell of a lot of kit!
I be just had a look, but I've deleted the pictures of the mock up I did for it.
Worth a thought for your next design.
