This is what I'm now thinking too. The black finish seems to be much more durable than the crappy, flaky silver. I think it'd look better with my yellow paintwork too, as has been pointed out by someone else on here (yes, I do take note! :lol ). So thus far, 4 gen 1s, and still not achieved that elusive perfect one for me. although this is the closest to it I've got so far; well, was until I stacked it :rolleyes
EDIT: Sorry, for some reason, last time I looked at the OPs post I got it in my head he had a black engine model - I'll blame the codeine :lol
All my gen 1s have already had the engine paint starting to go when I've bought them, so I guess it might be possible to keep it looking good if you start with a perfect example. But it seems with the black, it's less effort?
