Just try out of tv, into player, then to speakers.
You'll need to switch the player on to get full effect though.
Just to confuse you a bit more, here's a hack you can try to open up the player so that all dvd's can be played, rather than just Region 2 which is what we are in the UK.
Once it's done it will play everything, even your bent dvd's from the B&Q car park.
