Yes I know ive had the same one for 13 years and you do not need all of that, those "wings" wont get touched and you can knock off 1/4 from the top. And those with double sided sticky tape always look rubbist and you wil get loose areas that you can tap as the cover floats a little.
Where you do need protection is where your knees areĀ  that link of mattsplats look right
I don't do rain or threat there of. dry rider only with no shame.
