An endless debate, which has no real answer as we all want different things. I bought my FZS for its all round ability and the relentless surge from the engine. The FZ-1 is not a torquemeister . On paper its better but on the road the power is all top endy.My 06 stock bike felt weedy until the tacho read 7krpm. Not what you would expect from 1000cc. Some have modified their bikes to claw some of this back, but its still a sportbike engine.Which is fine if you are on the case , not so good for roll on type riding. As some have said, given my full monty engine gives nearly 140 bhp at rear wheel, for road use, do you need any more ?? Its fecking rare I ever max the fazer out , so even I dont use it all....if anything it feels overpowered for many road/ traffic situations. Belting power comes in at 4k rpm even in top, so just sticking to 60 can be a problem.
The FZ-1 looks much more modern, but I like the classic look of the FZS. Its like an old friend to me,the thou is a bike I did all the firsts on ( first 160 mph, first knee down, first track day , first foreign tour) whereas I only have bad memories of the FZ-1, and even after spending a grand on it , it still didnt hit my sweet spot.I felt the same about my ZX-9. Great on paper , but for me it was the wrong bike. :\
But you can buy both FZS and FZ-1 so cheap these days , I spose the rivalry will never really go away ! :lol
