I prefer the gen 1 engine, but Gen2 handling is, even in standard form better for back road thrashing.
I've done all the basic tuning mods to my fz1 (end can/airbox/filter/trimmed flies/tb juicebox & map). It's bloody quick, but needs revving to get the best from it.
As for the rear 'seat', I regularly take my sister on rideouts, and she says it's comfy, but she is only a skinny 8 stone! The wife's been on the back once or twice, she's a little heavier, and she said it was ok for short blasts (50 miles or so).
If your after a fun bike for chucking about, the fz1 is the choice. As a do it all bike, the fzs is the king! (if I could have both, I would!)
That's the ideal, isn't it? The gen 1s power spread/comfort/ability to load up, and the gen 2s handling/lighter weight. Plus the extra performance of Ivanising/PC/reflash. And all with a Yamaha badge! Not asking much are we? :rolleyes
TBH, I really don't need any more top end power than the Ivanised gen 1 has tho. I ain't no Rossi/Steve Burns!
