You're talking ECU reflash or PCV + PC ignition module, full exhaust system, airbox/filter mods etc etc. With all these, you'll have a motor which will be similar to a Full Monty Gen 1 up to 8k rpm and then eke out maybe 10bhp more from 9k to redline. You'll need an FCE to cure the fuel-cut issue (present to this day but worse on the original 06 bikes) but Ivan's ECU flash for the Gen 2 covers everything to do with ignition timing and fuel cut. However, it still needs a PCV and separate fuel map.
The Gen 2 has better weight distribution and a stiffer chassis and the post-06 ones were pretty well sorted on spring rates, so handle better and more sporty than a stock or mildly tweaked Gen 1.
The Gen 2 is about 10kgs lighter and handles accordingly. Not so comfortable and less tank range than a Gen 1.
It comes down to rider skill to separate the two bikes in outright on-the-road situations and personal preference on the other points.
If it's broken, it's not fixed.
