Sand in my tank?

I use sthil saws a lot in work, one day one knackerd up, it was pretty new so took it back, the bloke was adamant I had not used two stroke which I had in a measured can, anyway tests where run on it etc etc, turns out sand had got in the machine, it must have been on my fuel can, it scored the pistons damaged rings etc, and in the end kerput, so be carefull  chaz, it happens.
