Pretty much all standard "Mechanics Sets" will give you the basics for the jobs at hand 
As red says though - extras 10mm, 12mm, 13mm and 17mm come in handy
A socket set coupled with a set of spanners is usually my go to for basics. Brands is personal choice but always go for a decent brand with things as cheap tools can round off bolt heads and cause other issues that you will regret. Good names (imo) include Draper, SnapOn and the Halfords Advanced series is good as well (their basic stuff is ok... but its basic...). I have been using a lot of Torq stuff recently (tight budget and needed tools) which is more of a middleweight contender but the kit has been good value for money
