Buying a Combi Spanner set for the My 99 Fazer... - reddeviljp - 17-10-13 Greetings people.Looked on the search but couldn't find anything specific. What would be the range of such a combi-spanner set to tackle most tasks on the Fazer and which spanners is it worth doubling up on? Re: Buying a Combi Spanner set for the My 99 Fazer... - red98 - 17-10-13 open ended and ring my choice, double up on 10,13 and 17mm......MACHINE MART are good or the EXPERT stuff at HALFORDS ![]() false economy to buy cheap tools, spend a bit more to get tools that will last, more than get your money back over the years ![]() Re: Buying a Combi Spanner set for the My 99 Fazer... - Dead Eye - 17-10-13 Pretty much all standard "Mechanics Sets" will give you the basics for the jobs at hand ![]() A socket set coupled with a set of spanners is usually my go to for basics. Brands is personal choice but always go for a decent brand with things as cheap tools can round off bolt heads and cause other issues that you will regret. Good names (imo) include Draper, SnapOn and the Halfords Advanced series is good as well (their basic stuff is ok... but its basic...). I have been using a lot of Torq stuff recently (tight budget and needed tools) which is more of a middleweight contender but the kit has been good value for money ![]() Re: Buying a Combi Spanner set for the My 99 Fazer... - fazersharp - 17-10-13 Halford had a 1/2 price sale on their professional socket sets not sure if still on Re: Buying a Combi Spanner set for the My 99 Fazer... - Dead Eye - 17-10-13 Yeah, occasionally a good deal like that will crop up but even at half price their set was still £60~ if I remember correctly - pretty sure the sale has ended as well ![]() Its a good set and excellent value for money, but it depends on how much the OP is looking to spend. Asking only about spanners I would suggest the budget is fairly low Re: Buying a Combi Spanner set for the My 99 Fazer... - richfzs - 17-10-13 Halford sale on their pro stuff comes around more often than busses in trafalgar square. If it's not on right now, just wait... Re: Buying a Combi Spanner set for the My 99 Fazer... - bigbluebear - 17-10-13 Halfords sale is still on....looks pretty good too http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/categorydisplay_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_categoryId_165532_langId_-1 Re: Buying a Combi Spanner set for the My 99 Fazer... - AdieR - 17-10-13 Another vote for Halfords (the Advanced range anyhow); there's generally good deals to be had there. Try also local motor factors; they often have quality kit at decent prices. B&Q are also worth a look. I'd try and get a set from 8mm-19mm (probably most will be anyhow), as it'll give extra flexibility if you should need it, and a decent socket set of the same. If you're just starting out, there are some Mechanic's Toolkits / Car Repair kits, which include things like screwdrivers, pliers and Allen keys, as well as spanners / sockets. As already stated, buy decent stuff to start with, look after it and they'll look after you, unlike cheap stuff that gets used once or twice, breaks, and gets binned. Re: Buying a Combi Spanner set for the My 99 Fazer... - Andy FZS - 17-10-13 Bought britool spanners 30+ years ago and they are still as new, so although it seemed expensive at the time (being a poor aprentice I bought them in ones and twos ) I still use them now. And yes I have removed the selophane before anyone jumps in with that one. Andy Re: Buying a Combi Spanner set for the My 99 Fazer... - fazersharp - 17-10-13 If I had my time again I would go for the now half price 150 halfords pro set at £99. I say had my time again because Ive brought bits when I needed them, smaller sets and needed a socket that not got so paid over the odds for 1 socket, got some spanners ----needed to add ring spanner --- got a set of them, got a 3/8 tourque wrench but have got 1/2 sinch sockets (fed up with adding an adapter the the length) so just got the 16 piece halfords pro set 3/8 socket £19.99 so now can use directly on my tourque wrench. So in the long run ive spent 3 times the amount. Mate if you can run to it get the bigger set and be done with it Re: Buying a Combi Spanner set for the My 99 Fazer... - Ebme Geek - 17-10-13 Draper Expert range of spanners brillent value for money, very good quality and will take some umph, forget their more diy ranges. Same goes for their socket sets Set your bench mark there, ![]() http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Draper-Expert-Metric-Combination-Spanner-Set-Professional-Quality-11-Pce-68234-/380715767481?pt=UK_Hand_Tools_Equipment&hash=item58a46d96b9#ht_2912wt_1129 Re: Buying a Combi Spanner set for the My 99 Fazer... - adeejaysdelight - 17-10-13 Buy the best you can with the tools that will be used a lot, like spanners and sockets/wrench's. Better to have the 4 spanners you need in a quality metal than a whole set of shite. Halfords advanced, Draper and Teng are good enough for a home enthusiast. However, buying "cheap" tools is fine for some things that only get used from time to time. My rubber mallet and hammer were under £5 each, unbranded and over a decade in use. Same goes for my Stanley type blade and a few other bits. The point is, choose where to spend your money and don't be tempted by an offer that seems to good to be true. A box full of tools for £200 is not worth having Re: Buying a Combi Spanner set for the My 99 Fazer... - reddeviljp - 17-10-13 (17-10-13, 01:16 PM)Ebme Geek link Wrote: Draper Expert range of spanners brillent value for money, very good quality and will take some umph, forget their more diy ranges. Same goes for their socket setsI've got a lot of tools but not a proper combi spanner set. These look exactly like what I'm after. I'll also double up on the 10,13 and 17mm as recommended. Thanks a lot. |
