I was led to believe that most insurance sites did what's called a "soft search", I.e. it comes up on your report, but comes under a different section from "proper" searches for I.e. loans or credit cards.
Have you got your £2 statuatory report from experian (they post you a code, takes a few days), and Equifax (you get that instantly online) yet?
The other company to check with is call credit, but if you sign up for noddle, you get free access to that one
