Sometimes I think the Highway Code is full of shit. Personally what I normally try to do if being tail-gated in traffic is overtake a couple of cars and leave the twat behind. On motorways, I tend to gas it for a bit, then find a gap to pull into until said twat has gone past. Slowing down only makes the problem worse.
Giving such reasons as an excuse for speeding won't wash, I would've thought. If you're caught, you're caught. If you've been able to argue your way out of it once a ticket has been issued, I'd like to know how? (Apart from technical cock-ups on the part of the issuer, that is).
