Actually Mike, I didn't want to keep pestering you about it, hence the post on here - but always glad of an opportunity to learn more! 
Have since read back on some previous threads and am slowly coming around to your way of thinking, ie plugs/caps/HT connection. I bet you're thinking "why doesn't the silly sod just take it somewhere and get it sorted" - I will, I will, just gotta ride it a little more first! Lovely evening cool-off ride just now, but I wish they'd stop covering everything with gravel!
