Simple link pipe question-how far should it slide onto the downpipes.

I very recently fitted a Simmi can and you are right, the link pipe is almost impossible to slide all the way to the stop on the collector thingy, however I did get it within about 1cm and the stop matched up with the centre stand  rubber fine, I had to emery tape the outlet to remove the old crap (definitely couldn't get a gasket on it) , and then used some oil, a flat piece of wood placed over the end of the link pipe and a rubber mallet to "tease" the link pipe further on.


Once I had it as far as i could get it I tightened everything up and it is fine, no leaks and a very secure fit.
