Well, as it happens, it's my birthday today and apart from cards and gifts, I also have had some luck today.
I rang Yamaha UK, who were very helpful and told me my bike was a full power model, and that any restriction would be a throttle restrictor.
I then rang FIInternational, and asked for some advice on what sort of restrictor is commonly fitted to a Fazer. The nice man went one better and put my Reg into his database, and, BAMM, he said it was restricted in 2010. Well there you go, all our hunches were right. he even told me what type of restrictor............carb inlet washer restrictors. Thanks FIInternational, top job.
So being an enthusiastic DIYer, i stripped the bike down, took the carbs out and popped the washers out. Job done. And buttoned it up and started her up and once she was warm, she red lined no probs. All i need to do now is get here out on the road. Im sure its going to be fun. All in, took me just under an hour.
I havent told the dealer yet, im going to think of something really smarmy to piss him off. Might even mention the fact he sold me a restricted bike but advertised incorrectly. So i think a bit of compensation is in order, or he'll be getting the Trading Standards letter in the post. Just to top it off, his so called "service" he did to the bike obviously excludes air filters (they are buried quite well in there)as it looks like the original filter is still in there.
So much for going to a dealer thinking I'd get some piece of mind. Obviously just a guy who doesnt care and takes shortcuts thinking customers wont notice. What a tool.
Anyway , Im on the road, just need to get my poorly FZ back together. But no rush.
While you were at the carbs, I would have taken the opportunity to balance the carbs. All that playing about is bound to have thrown them out.
