My plan was that it would be fused, the usb connector would be hidden in a more water resistant area and would also have a waterproof intsert (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003L...tag=vig-21) and would also have an inline waterproof switch (via ignition) to turn it on and off as well.
A cig lighter socket is definitely not waterproof and wouldn't change the likelihood of cable melting anyway (it's the ampage of the wire and the load that you're pulling and/or quality of cabling/grounding/sparks)
Opinions are like A**holes, Everyone has one. Some people seem to have more than one though which is a bit odd.
