Mine is more of a slight rumble from the right side at tick over which stops when you pull in the clutch or put your ear plugs in :lol
Maybe I got the "left hand side thingy" wrong because I do have dodgy hearing & my left ear picks up on more. But the rest of my story would be like you described, except I wouldn't describe the sound as a rumble.
Check the sprocket nut because when it goes its own way it can make funny sounds from the left side.
Deffo not the nut. This thing happens at standstill & goes away at the point were the clutch is engaged and starts to bite.
The labouring briefly in low gears could be the TPS out of adjustment.
Thats something worth checking before I look at the carbs (if I want to go down that road) :eek
