Its not the battery, it is most likely the back up fuse. What is happening is that there should be residual power going to the clocks when the ignition is turned off, so that the clock and other displays remember their settings. This power is not getting to those clocks, so they reset to defaults when the ignition is turned off.
It might be a fuse, or it could be a dodgy circuit board.
If you have just bought it and it is under a warranty, best advise is simply to point out the fault to the dealer. They would most likely have not noticed as if they fitted a new battery the default settings would have been displayed as a result of this.
