A64 is a favourite road for them; there's one spot in Rillington where they like to sit, and its bloody difficult to see them until its too late. Other favourites are the flyovers on the DC sections, and up slip roads.
I did see a patrol car sat out one night (Saturday night / Sunday morn) around 1am on the A170 Scarborough / Pickering road near Brompton; it were dark, and had been raining heavily that day too.
