If I am doing a euro tour I would fit new 023s or roadsmarts. I always got up to 5k from a rear and much more from a front. I wouldnt mess with cheaper tyres if you want to avoid having to get a tyre en route....if you do that it will end up dearer than buying a known decent tyre from the start.Its a chunk of money I know, but to me if you are touring you have to have decent tyres which will last ...and cope with rain too. Its entirely possible you might hit rain which you have to ride in , or bad weather at altitude....if that happend the small saving on a cheap tyre will seem pointless.
