I've never polished then once! (and they are still as good as they were 5 yrs ago)
Bought mine at the NEC bike show in 1995, polished them maybe 3 or 4 times in the intervening 16.5 years & for 14 out of that 16.5 I had a 90 mile daily commute, had a couple of offs & they still look fine & more importantly they're still waterproof!
Probably only get one more winter out of the soles though, fortunately Daytona do a resole service so no need to splash out on a new pair. 8)
