Danny's Digital Dash
#1
I was one of the first to buy one of these units and it has been great.

I don't use the bike much these days and leave it on a trickle charger. When I have used the bike the last couple of times I noticed the clock on the dash was showing 00:00. When I set the clock and then use the bike it is OK for the day but looses time again by the next day. I am, assuming there are batteries inside the unit somewhere.

Can anybody confirm there are batteries, where they are situated and what type they are please. I presume they are rechargeable.

Any help would be welcomed.

Dont know if it has a battey or not, but there is 12v supplied to the dash when the ignition is off to maintain the clock and trip meters and it would be best to check that it is working. this 12v is supplied by the backup fuse under the seat first.
If that is OK then you need to check that there is 12v to the dash. Pull the plug from the rear of the dash and check for 12v on the red/green wire.
If you haven't 12v there then it is most likely corrosion in the 6 way connector under the left infill panel. This is a very common issue

Thanks unfazed. I'll take a look.

Everything else on the display seems to be unaffected. Mileage counters, display modes, and all pre-sets.

Surely these would need 12v to keep their memory? All very strange.

Disconnect the battery negative lead, then reconnect it.

If the clock immediately zeros out, there probably isn't a battery back up.

OK, so there is definitely a battery back up. This is what I have found in messages between me and Danny:

Regarding the clock resetting, there is small panel at the rear of the dash labelled CR2032. The clock is maintained by a small button battery - if you replace that it should get the clock saving the time again. After replacing the battery you'll just need to set the time again.

I have also seen a message suggesting the CR2032 is replaced with an Lir 2032, a rechargeable unit. I'll fit one of these.

unfazed - I'm not getting a reading from the red/green wire to the clocks, well I am but it shows 0.4v! Before I pull apart the connector behind the infill panel, can you describe where the backup fuse under the seat is positioned. There is a little fuse box is it in there?

Thanks for your replies

Yes it is in there and there is a label inside the fusebox cover telling you what each fuse is for.

Thanks. I have checked the fuses and they are OK.

I've removed the left hand cover and cannot find a 6 way connector. I have what appears to be a couple of relays, a connector that has 3 wires in and 3 wires out and that is it. Is the connector with 3 wires in and 3 wires out the connector I should be checking?

Danny also suggested the clock unit included a rechargeable circuit but is supplied with a CR2032 which is not rechargeable. I have found out that a ML2032 is the same voltage as a CR2032, 3V, whereas the LIR2032 Danny suggested can go as high as 3.6-4.2V

If I fit the rechargeable battery I need to ensure I've got power at the clocks.

It is under the infill on the left side of the fairing, not the frame.

There are 2 connectors a 6 way connector and a 14 way connector.

As you have the them exposed you might as well check both as both connectors are prone to corrosion.
