Anyone know what this is? Everything on the bike is working fine, but when I turn the ignition to the on position I can hear a faint crackling noise, it sounds like it's coming from the tank or clocks area but I can't pin point it... Fzs1000 2002
is it a sort of tzzz tzzzz kind of sound :rolleyes
The problem with socialism is that sooner or later you run out of other people's money!
Probably the exup cycling

No wonder you sad and lonely you mean foccer :lol
Mind you I spent about an hour and a bit searching the internet when I first got my Fazer, cos someone said to me that the Exup valve really needs stripping down and cleaning out and lubing each year, as I said an Hour and a bit later I found out that FZS does not have one. :fish

The OP says he has a FZS1000 and has been told that the noise he is hearing is most likely the EXUP cycling so your post is only going to confuse him and anyone else new who reads it. I assume you're talking about the FZS600 in which case you're on the wrong forum.
The bike has a full akrapovic system on it. So no exup. Is there a solenoid hidden somewhere that I should remove? Read a post on the American forum that someone mentioned the sound to do with the "fuel gauge tracer", whatever that is...?
Could be that the exup servo (motor) has been left in with cables disconnected.
Tank off/lifted, ear under tank, ignition on
Cheers
Markie

Is the cycling a constant noise? This isn't like a servo sound on a dt125, like a constant crackling...
does it sound like a servo cycling when you turn it on. once it's on, you will hear a minute amount of motor noise as it holds a neutral position.

Just done full service inc ais removal makes changing plugs a piece of piss,Just had my servo out of the bike cracked it open greased it all put it back oiled cables , serviced exup too snapped 1 bolt in the exhaust doh
Drilled out re tapped and fresh stainless bolts, put it back together switched ignition on heard a funny noise from the servo thought the worst :'(
took it out opened valve and swithed ignition on and servo returned to neutral position so thats a bonus buzzing was just servo spinning up :lol
Next up ivans jet kit

I had the same sound on one of my fazers. If you squirt electrical lube down the ignition and turn it on and off a few times the noise should go away.
If it's broken, it's not fixed.
Turn off the engine with the kill switch, now turn off the ignition.
Turn on the ignition is the noise gone?
If so it is the exup servo

Oh I do beg your pardon Pie, I did not realise that if you don't have a 1K fazer your not allowed in this chat, I foolishly thought that the FOC was a club for all Fazer owners (How stupid of me) is it a club for any 1K Fazer owner or is it just a certain model or year or maybe it has to be a certain colour, maybe you are not allowed to post if you don't have a rear hugger or fender extender fitted.
I know mate I sorry as I am now being as big twat as others on here. My apologies
Did you sort the crackling noise out, coz mines doing it now, fzs 1000 2003. Ignition on, then it sounds like a relay clicking once, then the crackling sizzling noise starts until ignition is switched off. Sounds a bit like something arcing or shorting out, hope it's not.......

I had something similar and ended up replacing the battery which resolved the issue.
Mines got a new battery on and it's still doing it it's the exup servo the grease inside is very sticky and it sounds Like it's clicking as the cogs spin uplift the tank and feel the servo for vibrations to check operation ignition off turn wheel on servo to open valve then switch ignition back on if it returns to original setting put your tank back down and don't worry about it :lol

Nope, not sorted it yet, but what you are describing is exactly what I'm getting, more of a constant sizzling noise. I've changed the battery recently, and starter relay, so nothing to do with them (didn't think it would be anyway!) But I'll get to the source of it hopefully this evening, as I'll have it apart to balance the carbs anyway!
