Remove / Refit pipes - parts needed?
#1
found this..
http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,90.0.html

1.Any seals/sealant/gaskets etc. needed when I remove and refit the downpipes headers and foot (into can)
2.Is this applicable to FZS600 "2000" model
3.Where are the pics from the above thread?

TIA

My advice is leave them unless they really have to be taken off. If you snap a stud you'll be in trouble

1.  Didnt use ay sealant when doing mine, didnt need it.  I Changed the circular copper gaskets at the head and just reused the one on the foot into can.
2.  Applies to all FZS600 (mines a 2003)
3.  not sure where pics are but its all pretty easy to do when you take a look at your bike.

didnt snap any studs on mine, did the soaking with WD40 once a day every day for 2 weeks before had though. (just be careful)

I'd get a spare gasket for the header to end can join. The join doesn't always come apart cleanly. If you don't need it keep it till next time

confused :2guns so is the advice to change both head and foot gaskets , or not , or "suck it and see". The default to assume the worst case is usually safest best so assuming this I need copper head gaskets and the footer (to can) join ?

I think it depends on what end can and header combination you have.......when i took off my original end can i totally destroyed the gasket and my Simmi performance can fitted over it nice and tight and then the clamp tightened it up so much that i didn't need a gasket, same app,ied when i got stainless headers........but ive heard of others moaning about the seal on other cans not being good enough.
Easiest way to go fast........don't buy a blue bike

Used new copper seals for headers- only £6 from Motad, everything undid without prob. I think the end can could seal better but the MOT guy was happy with it
