replacing fork leg bottom
#1
I am currently doing up a fazer I bought as a project. It has been down the road. I have done most things on it. I want to replace the fork leg bottoms but what I want to know is will are they easy to do? I can remove the oil etc myself. Will I need a fork seal driver to put seals in the new fork leg or is that only if you are putting a seal in and keeping the fork leg whole?

There's a bush on the end of the fork stanchion. You have to force the bush past the oil seal to separate the stanchion from the bottom of the fork. It's a fairly brutal process so you'll probably damage the seal and you'd be wise to replace it. Go for genuine seals. You can use the old seal as the seal drive and knock in the new seal if you're careful

You can make a DIY seal driver using some plastic pipe and a jupilee clip Smile

They are form a 1998 model with only 12,000 miles on them. The first page of this link will show you why I no longer need them: http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,10613.0.html

Or I also have a pair of complete forks from a the later model with the adjusters on the fork tops.
