fazer 1000 ( 2001 ) gearbox fault - Please HELP
#1
I have a 2001 fazer 1000 with 44k on the clock

It developed a clattering noise that stopped upon selecting a gear

I have removed complete clutch assembly back to the oil pump chain and found the gearbox input shaft has about 1/8th of a turn free play

I have been told this is the fault but without removing anymore i was hoping someone might know what is wrong to cause this fault

Can anyone help in my plight to fix my bike - Thanks in advance    .    Fazerderek.

gen 1's can have problems with the selector forks due to cack handed 2-3 gearshifts on the back wheel.
also a possibility of a broken return spring in the selector area.
if the bike is in gear, you will have some backlash as the teeth mesh, check for up/down/left/right play in the shaft rather than rotational play.
did the noise go away with the clutch pulled in, or only on gear selection, that should tell you where the problem is!
but to save you the hassle i'll give you £100 for ii as a non runner Wink
The problem with socialism is that sooner or later you run out of other people's money!

I have found a local guy who will strip and rebuild my gearbox to former glory so looking like i will be sorted in the near future at a minimum cost to my pocket
I have owned this bike for 6.5 years and its the first major engine issue ( not including ex-up valve problems )
