Does anyone else like unpainted engine fins?
#1
I think it looks much better but it seems that nobody else do this.

EDIT: Sorry I realize I did not explain it very well. I was talking about sanding the smaller lower fins that came painted from the factory, below the big unpainted ones.

pretty much the same lookin bike as my long gone 600.the prob is u have an edge where the paint finishes exposing the allly fin and that is where the paint will flake after usage in our british weather over time. also the heat generated buy the block will unhinge the paint at the line of the fin. it is unevitable with time. i used heat resistant paint to touch it up and after a while it will kinda bond to the existing finish with the heat that the engine creates and form a better finish along that line.
Just flapping about on this stagnant little pond on the outer rim of the internet.....yup....  :-))

Good to know. I think mine is safe, dry weather here. Part of one fin has been exposed without problem since I bought it, 7 years ago. It gave me the idea of stripping the others.

Only the bigger upper ones came unpainted from factory. The smaller lower ones didn't.

Ah yes, I see what you mean now. Often wondered why didnt they paint the bottom of the engine black instead of leaving it. That grey/black line stands out like a sore thumb!

I agree. I didn't pay attention before but it looks unfinished.

I'm confused, I'm not sure I understand the question? But yes, the bike did burn Tongue Most of the paint survived strangely though, but its obviously not in great condition  :lol

I think unpainted fins add character, and I like it.

IMHO, I would not paint the whole engine black if I was doing a refurb on it.

Hi, My silver Fazer 600 1999 has the fins painted black, and on that colour I prefer it.
On a black bike I think the silver fins look cool, the colour of the bike alters how you look at things.

Yes I get your point. I think something similar happens to the foxeye models.

I did not explain myself very well either. The thread was about sanding the lower small ones that came painted from stock. I have seen some engines totally painted, but no one with all fins sanded.

On a black bike it looks awesome for sure.

You've got me tempted to sand all the bloody fins now, just to see what it looks like on a silver bike!
