Does anyone else like unpainted engine fins? - Motorbreath - 17-01-13 I think it looks much better but it seems that nobody else do this. EDIT: Sorry I realize I did not explain it very well. I was talking about sanding the smaller lower fins that came painted from the factory, below the big unpainted ones. Re: Does anyone else like unpainted engine fins? - Dead Eye - 17-01-13 My previous bike had unpainted fins and I agree it does look nice ![]() Re: Does anyone else like unpainted engine fins? - Exupnut - 17-01-13 pretty much the same lookin bike as my long gone 600.the prob is u have an edge where the paint finishes exposing the allly fin and that is where the paint will flake after usage in our british weather over time. also the heat generated buy the block will unhinge the paint at the line of the fin. it is unevitable with time. i used heat resistant paint to touch it up and after a while it will kinda bond to the existing finish with the heat that the engine creates and form a better finish along that line. Good to know. I think mine is safe, dry weather here. Part of one fin has been exposed without problem since I bought it, 7 years ago. It gave me the idea of stripping the others. Re: Does anyone else like unpainted engine fins? - Doddsie - 18-01-13 Eh??? I thought they were all unpainted???? Re: Does anyone else like unpainted engine fins? - Motorbreath - 18-01-13 Only the bigger upper ones came unpainted from factory. The smaller lower ones didn't. Re: Does anyone else like unpainted engine fins? - Doddsie - 18-01-13 Ah yes, I see what you mean now. Often wondered why didnt they paint the bottom of the engine black instead of leaving it. That grey/black line stands out like a sore thumb! Re: Does anyone else like unpainted engine fins? - Motorbreath - 18-01-13 I agree. I didn't pay attention before but it looks unfinished. But yes, the bike did burn ![]() Re: Does anyone else like unpainted engine fins? - His Dudeness - 18-01-13 I like the original unpainted look on the fins. you can get them looking great with a bit of 1500 wet and dry paper. shiney 8) (18-01-13, 09:27 PM)Dead Eye link Wrote: I'm confused, I'm not sure I understand the question? Re: Does anyone else like unpainted engine fins? - Dead Eye - 18-01-13 I'm certainly trying to - if all goes well I might be getting one early next week, so fingers crossed ![]() Re: Does anyone else like unpainted engine fins? - His Dudeness - 19-01-13 nice one! Re: Does anyone else like unpainted engine fins? - CharlieDee - 20-01-13 Looks like the 1500 W&D is coming out!! really like that!! :lol Re: Does anyone else like unpainted engine fins? - Fordy - 22-01-13 something else i am going to have to do it looks much better i didnt c it at first. Re: Does anyone else like unpainted engine fins? - JZS 600 - 25-01-13 I think unpainted fins add character, and I like it. IMHO, I would not paint the whole engine black if I was doing a refurb on it. Re: Does anyone else like unpainted engine fins? - Hobgoblin - 29-01-13 Hi, My silver Fazer 600 1999 has the fins painted black, and on that colour I prefer it. On a black bike I think the silver fins look cool, the colour of the bike alters how you look at things. Keith. Yes I get your point. I think something similar happens to the foxeye models. I did not explain myself very well either. The thread was about sanding the lower small ones that came painted from stock. I have seen some engines totally painted, but no one with all fins sanded. Does anyone else like unpainted engine fins? - Tibbs - 31-01-13 On a black bike it looks awesome for sure. Re: Does anyone else like unpainted engine fins? - Hobgoblin - 03-02-13 You've got me tempted to sand all the bloody fins now, just to see what it looks like on a silver bike! Re: Does anyone else like unpainted engine fins? - Motorbreath - 04-02-13 Post pictures if you do it! |
