Hi and welcome. Smile

First, please turn off the caps lock on your keyboard.  Thanks ... we may be old here but we ain't deaf. Wink

When you say 'choke doesn't come on', have you checked that the operating the choke lever actually moves the choke mechanism bar on the carbs?

Is the lever stiff to operate?  Is the cable seized or broken?

These are the things I'd check first because it sounds as though your choke linkage isn't working properly.

What's the mileage and recent service history of the bike?  Any more mods other than the K&N filter, which won't cause this problem incidentally.

Mike

Since it is a Gen 2 you have it is mostly likely the thermowax unit acting up.

Fair enough. Smile

I saw 2005 and derived Gen 1 from the date.  Didn't check the sidebar to see it was a Gen 2.

Disregard all after 'hi' :lol

Other than that I know less about the gen 2 than I know about the moon..... Both made of cheese right?

Im not sure if its the same kind of setup as the tdm900 in that when the wax melts it allows a small pin to move and reduces the fast running. On them its common for the pin to sieze in the housing so stops moving back out to the cold position so no choke or sticks in cold position and choke wont go off.
Pretty easy to fix on the tdm since it was easy enough to get to. Worth checking to see if its the same fault on your gen 2. Strip the end off clean up the pin and stick it back together. Hope this is of some help.

As above it sounds like the thermowax unit. I had a similar issue with mine. I managed to sort with WD40 but often needs replaced or "stripped". Bit of a mare to get to on the FZ1 aswell as everything is in the way.
