Rear linkage
#1
Putting the rear shocker back on, should the linkage be tightened up with the bike on the stand or off the stand.
or does it not matter.
thanks. :\

I believe you get less play if you tighten the bolts with the bike on the side stand.

Shouldn't make no difference as the bearings are roller bearings.

Does not matter as they are tightened onto the collar/spacer not the needle roller bearings

it is nothing to with having a collar/spacer as bushes also have a spacer, a bearing can be tightened in any position but a rubber bush should be tightened in its resting position under load otherwise the rubber bonding will get damaged when moved to its working position, not that will affect many motorcycles.

I agree, but oddly the play in the linkage (which you can feel by lifting the back wheel) is slightly less if you tighten the linkage bearings up with the bike on the side stand as opposed to the centre stand. I have no idea why it turns out this way but I seen it myself a couple of times. Bit of a headscratcher.....

There's a chance you've done it too tight then. Even from new these linkages have a perceptible play in them when you lift the swingarm.
