Fzs600 engine removal
#1
Hello there

Just wondering if the cards and airbox need to be removed to get the motor out?

Yes, the carbs need to come out.
In order to do that the airbox needs to be loosened and slid back, but you don't need to take it out.

Does the motor come of of the left or right side? It's being a proper pig

If I try to take it out of the right hand side the oil filter port doesn't have room

And the left side doesn't seem right

Haside to be the most difficult engine to remove

Yes, it does come out of the right hand side of the frame. I've always had to take the oil filter off, but it does wriggle out OK.

Cheers, I've taken the filter off but where it threads on is tight by the frame

Take the oil filer off AND the housing behind it!! It's got a big nut in the middle and I don't think it's possible to get the engine out with it still on!

Get a trolley jack under the engine. Pump the engine up, slide/wiggle it onto the frame, reposition jack under engine outside the frame, then wiggle the engine onto the jack and roll the engine away. It's not that tricky, I can get the engine out in under an hour.. Putting it back in is the pig and can take me 3 or 4hours - reconnecting throttle cables, carb rubbers, working out all the cable and pipe routing, etc...

It's all worth it, for the satisfaction of firing the bike up for the first time once all the work is done.

I got it out in the end, what a cu#t  that was! :eek

Managed to get it out with the oil filter housing on but will definitely take it off to put it back in!

Cheers for the help and advice so far lads
