New Fz1 owner.

I’ve bought a 02 FZ1 as a second bike.
Been looking for one for ages because of their reputation. But I’m disappointed in my bike.
It’s slow. For a litre bike. I expected a bit more tbh.  The handling is sketchy. Really sketchy. Almost dangerous when pushing on.

My bike is tired and needs some tlc and I’ll work though the issues.
This forum is a wealth of good tips for upgrades etc. here’s hoping I can make the bike I wanted.

Thanks for all the great write ups etc. Helped already with the sized exup I had.

  • Did you mean a 2002 FZS1000? (FZS1000 (gen1), 2002-2005 and FZ1 (gen2), 2006-2016).

I've had the gen1 and gen2, I certainly wouldn't describe them as slow, so something is making your bike slow. You say it's a bit tired, do you know when it was last serviced or what was done? First thing I'd say is check the air filter and check there are no blockages in the fuel lines and give the carbs a clean. I'd start there and see if there's any improvement. As for the handling they can be a bit twitchy if the suspension is not set up for your weight. I found my gen2 was like that when I got it, the previous owner had set the rebound to its maximum position so check that out too.

These are the first steps I would take before more indepth investigation

Nothing I say should in any way be taken as a good idea ?
