I think it should be possible with the right tools. Not easy, but possible.

First, drain the carbs. Then you'll need a Philips No.2 driver mounted on something like a 1/4" ratchet wrench to get in there for the two inner screws. The two outer screws should be removable with a normal screwdriver. One of those flexible mirrors would be handy too.

The carb has I think has a small amount of crap in it, it fires on 3 at low revs and picks up on the main jet. Just want to pop it off to see the what's what. The original tank had bad corrosion in it, I've put a new onde on but suspect crap may be partially blockin a jet.

you could prolly get it with a bit set with 75mm bits have you tried using the drain screw to see if it clears it

Not yet mate but will give that a go first. Last owner seemed to have been fixated on the look of the bike and not so much on the service side.

Shove a whole bottle of STP Complete Fuel System Cleaner in a full tank of petrol, it's the only cleaner i've ever known to actually work!

Could be arcing through the spark plug caps causing that too. A set of NGK's and trim the ht leads could help

Had new plugs in the last couple of weeks, couldn't hurt trimming the leads back a bit though.
