Hi all,
My 28,000 mile service is peeking at me just around the corner (another thousand miles, if that), and I was wondering are there any things to look out for in particular, any hidden nasties? Also, how much should I expect to pay to get my local garage to do it?
Thanks!

I would, but for the fact that I have not a clue as to how to do the valve clearences - and a nasty habit of screwing things up badly when I'm not sure what I'm doing.
As the old joke says: if it's not broken, fix it till it is!

at 28,000 there probs alright, its easy to check, bit harder to adjust but i think there be ok....you`ve had the plugs changed and balanced the carbs..so just do a mini service ,oil, filter, air filter, fuel filter check chain and a damn good clean.....the money saved can be spent on tea for all the london foccers at the next meet

Amen red98. 1 sugar fer me.
Just flapping about on this stagnant little pond on the outer rim of the internet.....yup.... :-))
Yes, if you don't want to do it yourself and money's tight just ignore the valves. In my experience the clearances are extremely stable... I measured them religiously every 28,000 miles on my first engine and they were still fine when I finally junked the engine at 115,000.
Regular oil changes are the most important thing.
Thanks all, mini service it'll be.
Need to get new tyres soon too... :'(

You could always switch to a 6000 mile service interval as recommended for the later FZS 600. As said main thing is engine oil & filter & safety checks-tyres,brakes, fasteners. Little & often is a good recipe-do jobs as & when you can rather than try & cram the entire schedule into a day :lol
